Our Story
Who We Are

San Diego Therapeutic Horsemanship is a Southern California non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides therapeutic equine assisted services to military veterans, children and adults with emotional, learning and physical challenges.
What we do
Our therapeutic horsemanship based programs help improve the physical, cognitive, and social well-being of our clients.
Our services are tailored to each participant and incorporate the use of our specially trained horses and expertly planned sessions.

How we started
Started in 2001, as San Diego Hippotherapy, the mission was to provide medical treatment and therapeutic horsemanship activities to people with physical disabilities. In 2014, after assessing community needs, The Center changed its name to San Diego Therapeutic Horsemanship (SDTH) continued to serve people with physical needs and extended the program to include Veterans (funded through Wounded Warrior) and other people with a range of emotional and learning difficulties (individual lessons are privately funded). San Diego Therapeutic is the only program in the South Bay, and that serves youth experiencing trauma at no cost to the youth.
We are the only Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) organization with certified riding instructors within a 30-mile radius of southern San Diego County.

San Diego Therapeutic Horsemanship has provided specially tailored horse-based programs - at no cost - to over 150 veterans in the last five years.
